Forecast favours Queenstown ski fields

Local ski resorts are hoping last night’s snowfall is a precursor to bigger dumps later this week.

A fresh 5cm fell on Cardrona Alpine Resort, The Remarkables and Coronet Peak overnight – perfectly timed to see out the remaining three-and-a-half weeks of the ski season.

“It’s certainly a good time to get it, and it’s a reminder that winter’s still here,” Remarkables area manager Ross Lawrence says.

“Especially with a further 15-odd centimetres due this weekend…it’s very timely. I’m sure it might rejuvenate the market and let people know that winter’s not over yet.”

The three ski fields each have a base of about one metre.

Cardrona spokeswoman Nadia Ellis says she’s looking forward to the next front due in on Friday.

“It’s always a treat in spring to get some nice, dry, winter-like snow.”
