Flower sale surge in support of fundraiser

The Wakatipu community has shown its support for cancer research with a surge of Daffodil Day flower pre-sales.

Volunteers (from left) Zeta Burgess, Helen Henderson and Ann Carter are among almost 100p in the resort involved in pre-selling, bunching and delivering the spring flowers synonymous with tomorrow’s annual nationwide cancer appeal.

Daffodil Day Queenstown volunteer coordinator Jan Robertson says 1600 bunches of daffodils were sent out this week, which is more than previous years.

“It’s the support of the community that makes it a success.”

Cancer Society Daffodil Day volunteers will be on the streets collecting money tomorrow.

Meanwhile, local burrito bar Kartell is pledging a buck from every meal purchase on the day.
