Five Mile swings into golfing foursome

Queenstown shopping centre Five Mile has joined a group of local companies offering vital sponsorship support to the New Zealand Open golf tournament.

The ‘Queenstown Four’, first formed for the 2017 Open, also comprises Coronet Peak skifield, Eichardt’s Hotel and tourism company Real Journeys.

Five Mile Centre developer Craig Greenwood says the Open – running at Arrowtown’s The Hills and Millbrook Resort from February 28 – “delivers great commercial benefit for the Queenstown district during the week of the event, and reinforces Queenstown as a premium tourism destination to an international and domestic audience”.

“Golf is an ideal tourist target as visitors typically stay longer and are affluent, so their average daily spend is high.”

Real Journeys CEO Richard Lauder adds: “The NZ Open showcases our Central Otago scenery in a way and over a period of time that no other sport can do.

“I love the fact that we can support our local community and help market NZ to the rest of the world at the same time.”
