First aid trainees get busy in Queeenstown

A bloodied car accident ‘victim’ with glass protruding from his head put first aid trainees through their paces yesterday.

Seven locals – most in the adventure tourism industry – are ensuring their emergency response skills are up to scratch by undergoing a three-day, pre-hospital emergency care course run by the Red Cross at Remarkables Park.

They’re required to deal with accident scenarios acted out by two Red Cross instructors from Dunedin and Christchurch – in town to train the group.

Queenstown first aid training co-ordinator Rachel Wilstein hopes the course, which happens about once a year, becomes a twice-yearly event.
