Rather than looking like a picturesque beach, at the moment Queenstown Bay resembles a firewood yard.
Rough weather has left the lakefront littered with driftwood.
Queenstown Lakes District Council employs contractors to clear the debris – they’re usually called up once or twice a year and the council has to pay each time after the first two clean-ups.
This week’s mess will be the third time contractors have been called in so far in 2011.
“Our contractors are getting on to it – it only arrived there over the weekend in the strong winds and the high lake,” QLDC parks manager Gordon Bailey says.
A small loader will rack up the wood, which will be carted away by truck, Bailey says.
“It’s a reasonably straight forward job.”
