Fingers in promo pie


Fresh evidence of Queenstown Lakes District Council influence over Destination Queenstown has emerged in a draft “position description” for the promotion body’s new boss.

DQ’s job description says its new chief must “liaise and establish strong relationships with all stakeholders within DQ, including QLDC”, forming “working relationships … with politicians at a central and local government level”.
A prominent “key performance indicator” will be “feedback from board, strategic review board, stakeholders and QLDC”.

DQ is hunting for a new leader after former boss Stephen Pahl abruptly departed last month.

QLDC was criticised for its part in Pahl’s hiring after Mountain Scene revealed applications went to council human resources boss Rachel Reece – also a member of the selection sub-committee.

DQ is almost wholly funded by levies on local businesses – QLDC simply collects the levy.
