He’s boldly gone where no man has gone before.
But actor Joe Taslim says Queenstown’s Cecil Peak is the best place in this world he has ever been.
The Indonesian star, who recently finished filming for upcoming Hollywood blockbuster Star Trek Beyond, visited the resort last week as an ambassador for Tourism New Zealand.
“We wrapped last month and this was a chance to get away from all the craziness. New Zealand is the best place to do that,” Taslim told the Otago Daily Times.
It was a romantic getaway with his wife Julie – and both their mothers.
“It was our 10th anniversary a few months ago so we waited to celebrate.
“Just the two of us went on a helicopter to Cecil Peak.
“It’s an amazing place. I’m probably going to say that’s the best place in the world I’ve ever been.”
The Taslims were so impressed, they took their mothers up later the same day.
“They had to see what we saw,” he says.
Indonesia has been identified as a key emerging market for Tourism New Zealand.
In the 12 months to September, 16,500 people visited from Indonesia – up 16.6% on the corresponding period the previous year.
Taslim, also known for his role as a bad guy in The Fast and The Furious 6, has a strong presence on social media in Indonesia. He has about 265,000 Twitter followers, 356,000 Instagram followers and 103,000 Facebook fans.
The 34-year-old also went bungy jumping and canyon swinging in the resort, to the delight of his social media followers.
But Taslim’s tight-lipped on the latest film from the Star Trek franchise: “I’m not allowed to talk about that.”
