Failed Queenstown lodges up for grabs

Two Queenstown boutique lodges are for sale after their Australian ownership company went bust.

Remarkables Mountain Lodge, opposite Jack’s Point, and Evergreen Lodge, in Sunshine Bay, were both bought in 2013 by Sleep Overs Ltd, which has been placed in receivership.

They’re both trading under the management of receiver KPMG, and are being marketed for sale by local realtor BayleysLocations.

The seven-bedroom Remarkables Mountain Lodge, originally dating back to the 1930s, and four-suite Evergreen Lodge can be tendered for individually or jointly.

Both have turned in occupancy rates well below average, BayleysLocations agent Mark Martin says, indicating there’s a strong opportunity to grow revenues.

He and colleague Larissa Lynch note another way to increase business would be to convert each lodge’s owner’s/manager’s residence into visitor accommodation.

Alternatively, either lodge could be converted into a serviced holiday home or private residence.

Tenders close March 18.
