Records are tumbling at Queenstown Airport.
Six jets are pictured on the tarmac outside the terminal last Saturday as a new high was established for the number of scheduled aircraft movements in a single day, airport boss Steve Sanderson says.
There were 42 movements, topping the previous daily record of 38 set in 2008, he says. A movement is either a takeoff or landing.
But last weekend’s mark will be short-lived, Sanderson says.
“Believe it or not, this coming Saturday we’ve got 45 movements [scheduled].”
He also predicts the airport will set a new daily passenger record on Saturday.
The existing record is 5000 people through the terminal in a day.
