DQ appoints specialist for Asian markets

Queenstown’s tourism body has appointed an international markets manager for Asia.

Jiaming (Ella) Zhang joins Destination Queenstown in late July.

Zhang is fluent in both Mandarin and English and holds a BA Hons degree in tourism management from Victoria University.

She’s worked within the tourism industry in both China and New Zealand and is currently employed as guest relations manager and hotel assistant manager at Queenstown’s Sofitel hotel.

DQ boss Graham Budd says: “Ella has great industry and trade experience and a good understanding of Asian markets as well as the Queenstown tourism industry.

“I am excited to welcome her to the role of international markets manager – Asia.

“It’s a position only recently created in line with the increasing importance and focus on the Asian markets.”

Zhang has also worked as business development manager for Pure Boutique NZ, an inbound operator specialising in the high end Chinese market.

And before that, she worked for China Travel Service Group, based in China.

In her new role, Zhang will work across tourism trade channels, providing advice, training and knowledge about Queenstown for international travel sellers in key Asian markets, including itinerary development and hosting of travel trade familiarisation visits.
