Dog survives ute run-in

A Queenstowner is livid after her pregnant pooch was bowled by an unknown ute driver.

Jenny Brinsley says year-old Penelope Pug (right) was chasing rabbits on the Shotover Delta last month when she wouldn’t respond to calls.

“A ute stopped and the man in it said, ‘Are you calling a dog? I may have run over one – thought it was a rabbit’.”

The dog now has four pins and a bar in a leg after vets operated on a broken femur.

Brinsley – who’s very grateful to Remarkable Vets – says Penelope Pug also needed an emergency Caesarean section to give birth to three puppies last Sunday.

The dog couldn’t deliver them naturally due to a fractured pelvis. All up Brinsley faces a vet bill of $3000-plus.
