Radio New Zealand’s Queenstown-based journalist Steve Wilde and fashion designer Mon Frampton enjoy Melbourne Cup revelry on Tuesday.
Wilde, in a fetching horse-riding outfit, compered a fashion show at The Ballarat Trading Co bar in The Mall, raising $1060 for Wakatipu High’s careers department.
Frampton, 27, says: “It’s a great day down here.
“It was my first show and you put something of yourself out there for people to love or hate. But I was nervous for nothing.”
Canadian Queenstowner Rochelle Watters, in a stunning Carolyn Barker dress, won best-dressed woman, whilst Frampton’s partner Campbell Dawson was judged best-dressed man.
Dawson, who works at McCulloch and Partners, says it was just his work suit.
Meanwhile, a joint Cup Day event at Arrowtown put on by Rotary and the Arrowtown Community and Sports Centre Inc raised about $7000 for a community/sports centre.
Oh, and French horse Dunaden beat British hopeful Red Cadeaux in a photo finish.
