Crowd of 14,000 listen to the music at Gibbston Valley Winery

A packed crowd of about 14,000 thrilled to the sounds of two classy bands at Gibbston Valley Winery on Saturday.

Aussie legends Little River Band and American rockers The Doobie Brothers played hit after hit in warm conditions with a constantly humming moshpit.

The crowd was very similar in size to one that turned up to the winery’s first outdoor concert a year ago, featuring Dr Hook and Creedence Clearwater Revisited.

Winery boss Greg Hunt was pleased with the size and nature of the crowd, and that the traffic problems that marred the inaugural event were overcome.

In a nice touch, Little River Band dedicated their hit, Help Is On Its Way, to the earthquake-stricken people of Christchurch.

The Doobie Brothers virtually had the whole crowd standing and dancing by the time they played their swansong, Listen to the Music.
