Poppy handiwork: Abbeyfield Wakatipu resident Bronwen Chistianos shows Queenstown Lions Club president/Abbeyfield committee member Charlie Reid some poppies knitted for a fundraiser

By PHILIP CHANDLER

Queenstowners are invited to welcome the nationwide ‘Poppy and Star Flight’ fundraising project during its stopoff at the local Abbeyfield complex tomorrow.

Two giant pieces of knitted artwork featuring poppies and stars are being flown around New Zealand in a Piper Cherokee — local knitters can add their handiwork during tomorrow’s function, between 2 and 4.30pm.

The project’s fundraising for the Returned and Services’ Association, Auckland’s Starship
Foundation and the NZ Warbirds Association.

The local function’s hosted by Abbeyfield Wakatipu, off Frankton’s Robertson Street, the local RSA and Queenstown Lions Club.
