A 45-year-old Kingston man has been charged with assaulting his wife while they were returning from a night out in Queenstown.
It’s alleged he snapped when the couple argued as he was driving home at 2.30am last Saturday.
“They’d both been drinking and it’s claimed the woman opened the car door near Jack’s Point because she wanted to get out,” constable Sean Drader says.
“He allegedly slammed on the brakes and she hit her head on the windscreen as she wasn’t wearing a seatbelt.
She also says when she got out he drove forward and struck her with the vehicle.”
The woman, 47, called police when she arrived home.
“The female was taken to hospital to be checked and her husband was charged with assault with intent to injure,” Drader adds.
