The public are invited to an open day today (Wednesday) to discuss options to reduce Queenstown CBD traffic congestion.

The council is running the Inner Links open day from noon till 7pm at its Gorge Road offices.

The Inner Links project looks at options for new roading links between Frankton Road, Shotover Street/Gorge Rd and Man St.

The idea is to reduce through-traffic in the CBD and therefore better provide for pedestrians, cyclists and public transport.

“A pedestrian-friendly town centre is critical to ensuring Queenstown remains appealing to tourists and residents alike,” a council release says.

The council in the past has targeted a bypass using Melbourne and Henry Sts and Man and Thompson Sts.

It’s also bought up property between Melbourne and Ballarat Sts for a bypass.

The open day is designed to seek public input on options for the new route and design features.

Information will also be available on the council’s website, www.qldc.govt.nz, from tomorrow.
