Council looks to shore up Queenstown Gardens

The threat of flooding along a section of the Queenstown Garden’s shoreline needs mitigation and public consultation say Queenstown Lakes District Council.

The 200m section, located behind the ice-skating rink, is under threat by high lake levels which have threatened the integrity of tree root systems over time.

Public views are sought on any potential mitigation.

“Potentially we could create more of a lake edge feature, bringing the trail out to run across the top of any potential structure,” Parks manager Gordon Bailey says.

“Once we get a steer from the community we will then need to look at cost and consent issues,” Mr Bailey says.
Questions and comments regarding mitigation should be sent to with the subject line ‘Gardens’ or mailed to ‘Gardens’, c/o QLDC, Private Bag 50072, Queenstown 9348.

Comment should be with Council by Friday 30 November, 2012
