A knife-wielding thug from Christchurch was pepper-sprayed by cops after he’d allegedly gone berserk outside a Queenstown nightclub.
It’s believed the 20-year-old kitchen- hand first pulled the blade on four local men and threatened them following an argument in Shotover Street at about midnight last Saturday.
Not long afterwards, the same offender is alleged to have produced the knife again in front of people queuing outside Subculture in Church Street and also headbutted an Irishman in an unprovoked attack.
“The individual involved has been charged with assault and possessing an offensive weapon,” a spokeswoman for Queenstown police says.
“He had to be subdued with pepper spray as he was allegedly acting up quite a bit and a knife was found on him by officers.”
The spokeswoman adds: “He said he had the weapon for self-defence but no one should be carrying a knife for a night out in a place like Queenstown.”
A Queenstown local who claims to have witnessed the alleged incidents tells Mountain Scene: “It was a decent-sized knife. It was real serious stuff and not cool at all.”
The alleged offender has since returned to Christchurch where he is on a curfew. He’ll appear in court next month in relation to the Queenstown occurrences.
