A former Queenstown mayor wants a referendum on a local convention centre.
Ex-mayor Warren Cooper, in his Mountain Scene column today, says: “Any substantial financial support from ratepayers on the convention centre must be subject to a properly conducted poll – like a referendum.”
In February, Queenstown Lakes District Council announced it was entering negotiations with a consortium led by Ngai Tahu Property and public-private infrastructure giant Morrison & Co.
SkyCity entertainment Group is preferred operator. Council is making some analysis public this week before an information session next Friday at Queenstown Memorial Centre.
