Confessions over mini crime spree: cops

Two Queenstowners have apparently confessed to hitting five local shops in a mini crime spree.

Cops say staff from menswear chain Hallensteins complained of a theft from the Beach Street shop on Thursday afternoon.

Two suspects were spoken to – a 17-year-old female and a 20-year-old man, both locals.

Senior sergeant Paula Enoka says: “After interviewing them we got admissions of thefts from four other stores.”

Those shops were: Bendon Lingerie, a crystal shop, Budget 1,2,3 and Mary Sheep Souvenirs.

Some allegedly stolen goods have been recovered. She didn’t know the total value of the goods supposedly taken.

The pair will appear in court on Monday.

Enoka says: “It might be a good reminder for shops to be vigilant coming into the busy season – and to check their security systems are up-to-date.”
