Queenstown primary kids have been hitting some aces with a new tennis scheme.
Coach Louie Lanz has been teaching St Joseph’s and Queenstown Primary littlies racquet and ball skills since February.
Both schools hopped into the Grasshoppers programme – a Tennis New Zealand initiative to introduce the sport to five-to-10-year-olds nationwide – this term.
Under the scheme, launched locally last year by Mark Milburn, each classroom gets four 30-minute tennis lessons for a term each year for three years and competes in Grasshopper Tournaments.
Schools signing up also get subsidised nets and specially made mini-rackets and soft balls.
Lessons finished this week in Queenstown but Arrowtown School plans to join later this year.
