Christmas isn’t always full of festive fun for everyone, but a Queenstown woman’s on a mission to bring a little holiday spirit to those who need it.
Ann-Marie Longthorn has set up two local drop-off points for a project called Sending Love NZ.
It aims to send Christmas cards to people who need them, and especially those who may be feeling lonely during the festive season.
Longthorn, an English expat, says with its transient nature, Queenstown can be a tough place to live.
“We’ve been here 18 years, but when we started here we had nobody,” she says.
“It’s such a transient town, your friends leave, and you can end up on your own very easily.
“It’s an amazing place, but it can be a hard place.”
She’s also looking at sending some to resthomes in the area.
“I want to keep it really local.”
She’s keen for people to get creative, get kids involved, and fill their cards with love.
There are collection points at Queenstown Events Centre and the Arrowtown Library.
People can also email, at firstname.lastname@example.org
Cards need to be dropped off by next Thursday.
