Queenstown Primary teacher Fiona Stephenson strikes a pose for Chicago’s promotional poster shoot recently.
Stephenson plays the lead role of Roxie while Arrowtown mum-of-three Nicole McLean plays the lead role of Velma in the popular musical, to be held at Queenstown Memorial Centre next month.
Posters for the May 16-25 show hit the streets this week.
Main characters have been busy rehearsing up to 15 hours a week for the show – and Showbiz Queenstown production manager Hilary Finnie says director Bryan Aitken is blown away by the quality of performers.
“He wouldn’t have expected any better quality than if he was directing in Auckland, Wellington or Christchurch. It’s city-quality performing, which is very exciting,” Finnie says.
Ticket sales are still exceeding expectations and are tipped to break Showbiz box office records, beating its most popular production to date, Les Miserables, in 2009.
“A lot of the shows are 70-80 per cent full. It’s strongly recommended that tickets are bought early,” Finnie adds.
