A drunken Aussie teen has been arrested for shoplifting after allegedly being caught with almost $50 worth of chocolate hidden in his pants.

The 18-year-old was collared at Night ‘n’ Day in Camp Street at 4.45am on Monday.

“It’s believed the lad was very drunk and was being egged on by his mates to shove bars of confectionary down his trousers,” intelligence support officer Haley MacKenzie comments.

“How he managed to get so much in there is anybody’s guess – as is how he thought he could get out of the shop without anyone noticing him.

“Apparently he and his friends thought it was a great laugh, but nobody else did.”

Downtown bashings

A 32-year-old local man has been arrested for assault with intent to injure after allegedly attacking another male outside Atlas Beer Cafe in Beach St.

“The offender was having a seat when the victim exited the premises and apparently called him a ‘fag’ on the way past,” MacKenzie says.

“It’s alleged that the local then punched the victim so hard he broke his nose and then left the scene.”
The incident happened at 10.30pm on June 29.

Meanwhile, a 27-year-old Queens-town man was charged with assault after an alleged set-to with a male from Otautau outside the Sky Bar at 3.25am on Sunday.

The alleged victim is believed to have suffered a minor injury.

The same night an Invercargill man, 19, was charged with assault following an alleged attack on an 18-year-old male from Bluff outside the Night ‘n’ Day on Camp St.

Gear swiped from boat

A lifebuoy and ring have been stolen from luxury cruiser Pacific Jemm, berthed in Queenstown Bay.

“The items were pulled off the side of the boat between July 1-4,” MacKenzie says.

“This is safety equipment and the owners would like it back ASAP.”

Teen drink-drivers busted

Three Queenstown teenagers were caught allegedly drink-driving in separate instances in the early hours of Wednesday.

Two lads aged 18 and a 19-year-old male were all stopped at police road checks set up in town.

One of the 18-year-olds also had his vehicle impounded for driving while disqualified.
