Campaign coffers swell

Queenstown Rotary president Chris Campbell tips hundreds of foreign coins into local Lion Simon Hayes’ collection tin. The coins come from Rotary’s wishing well at Queenstown Airport, together with donations from visiting Rotarians. “There are all sorts of foreign currencies,” Hayes says. Hearing the Reserve Bank’s estimate of $81 million of outdated currency still being in circulation, Hayes dreamed up a campaign to turn redundant and foreign money into cash for deserving youngsters. As Heads Up For Kids national chairman, he was in Wellington last week fine-tuning the sorting process.
