A pilot operation for a foot spa franchise designed by advertising powerhouse Saatchi & Saatchi has opened flagship premises in Queenstown.
The Spring Foot Spa on Earl Street is the latest business venture of luxury chain East Day Spa, which has branches in Auckland, Wellington, Melbourne and Bali.
It will provide a social rather than spiritual experience for weary skiers and trampers, offering foot-focused mini-treatments.
Managing director Ina Bajaj (right): “It is a brand we have been working on for the past two years with [worldwide director of design] Derek Lockwood at Saatchi & Saatchi.
“When we first approached him [about] a social foot spa he loved the idea. He was instrumental in the design. We own luxury spas in other cities but this is a new brand where it is very much more accessible to the public and a lot more social.
“You can sit side by side and chat. But for the purists who want to zone out, we offer that as well.”
Bajaj says the Queenstown spa, which opened last Sunday in the former Toi o Tahuna art gallery premises, will employ seven staff and also offer traditional treatments.
“This has been designed as a franchise brand with Queenstown being our flagship,” Bajaj says.
“We initially looked at other towns in New Zealand but this is an international brand we are creating and we do have a strong international focus for Spring Foot Spa.”
