Take the thrills home

Passengers on Queenstown’s Shotover Jet can endlessly relive their jetboat ride, courtesy of this new video camera.

Believed to be a world first, the $500,000 “jet-cam” technology has been developed over the past two years by Shotover Jet and locally based Magic Memories – with the project aided by a $60,000 Trade and Enterprise grant.

“The front and rear footage captures aspects of the experience customers couldn’t otherwise access,” says Shotover Jet boss Clark Scott.

Magic Memories director John Wikstrom says the jet-cam was rigorously tested so it can withstand adverse conditions, particularly vibrations and getting wet.

Videos showing four to five minutes of action sell at $59, which includes still photos.
