Queenstowner Geoff Matthews has beaten eight other finalists to win a nationwide marketing award for his Mt Cook Alpine Salmon.
Matthews – who’s pictured with company chairman, former Prime Minister Jim Bolger and Marketing Association chief executive Sue McCarty at the TVNZ-NZ Marketing Awards in Auckland last week – won the transformational marketing category.
Mt Cook Alpine Salmon had successfully “found the holy grail of export by creating a new ultra-premium category in the highly competitive American market”.
It was also a finalist in three other categories.
The company’s creative agency, BrandCom – also owned by Matthews – won the emerging business categories in 2009 for TaxRefunds.co.nz and last year for work for a client selling guitar effects pedals.
Matthews says BrandCom has been the only South Island creative agency to have been a finalist over the past three years.
