Remarkables Park developers have confirmed they are planning to more than double the size of their Frankton Flats shopping centre.
The confirmation came three days after Five Mile developers were granted resource consent for a $120 million shopping complex on ‘Hendo’s Hole’, also on the Frankton Flats.
Remarkables Park Ltd co-director John Porter says plans for 4000 square metres of medium-format retail, to be developed by an independent company, were presented to the Remarkables Park design review board last Friday.
The board was also presented with information about a new Zig Zag Zoo childcare centre for 75 preschool children and a nine-unit residential apartment complex.
The apartments will be able to cater for staff and student accommodation for the expanding Southern Institute of Technology campus at Remarkables Park.
Last week, Diversified BZ – which owns the original Remarkables Park shopping centre – also announced plans for a new seven-store building on its last remaining site.
Porter says the centre’s strong retail performance, future adjoining high school for 1500 pupils and other Remarkables Park projects in the pipeline give his company confidence to continue expanding.
Remarkables Park Ltd intends presenting plans for a further 8000sq m expansion next month.
Another sister Porter Group company, Shotover Park Ltd, has announced it intends challenging Five Mile’s consent in the High Court.
