Queenstown Airport is celebrating record monthly figures for domestic passengers.
In figures just released, 89,043 domestic passengers passed through the airport in December.
“This is the largest number of domestic passengers to pass through the airport in one month ever and up 19.2 per cent on December 2011,” an airport spokesperson says.
Domestic airport movements were up from774 in December 2011 to 842 in December 2012, despite Jetstar pulling its Queenstown-Christchurch service.
International passenger numbers were also up an impressive 51.8 per cent on the same month a year earlier.
There were 22,285 international passengers in December 2012 compared with 14,678 in December 2011.
That was helped by international aircraft movements lifting from 118 to 182.
Overall, 111,328 passengers travelled through the airport.
That’s 21,931 more travellers – a 24.5 per cent increase – over the previous December.
An airport spokesperson says loadings on flights were very strong, ranging from 84 to 88 per cent.
