Work on a relocated accommodation lodge at Chard Farm vineyard has won an award for Gibbston architectural designer Matthew White.
White was presented with the residential alterations and additions design award at the ADNZ/Resene Otago/Southland Design Awards in Invercargill last Friday.
White, trading as Remarkable Architectural Design, designed the renovation and extension of what’s now Judge & Jury Cottage, overlooking the Kawarau River.
The clients’ brief required a general makeover, a new bedroom and a redesign of the entrance and living room.
The existing low roof was replaced with a high verandah roof to take advantage of spectacular views.
White started his business in 2005 after working for 13 years as an architectural technician for well-known Queenstown architect Michael Wyatt.
“My architectural interests are being involved with alternative building materials and I am passionate about restoring older local buildings and houses,” White says.
