A “helicopter on wheels” has scooped gold for a Queenstown signwriting and design company at the New Zealand Sign and Display Awards.
Sign It won the medal in the awards’ vehicle class for an innovative design on an Over The Top Helicopters courtesy van at a black-tie dinner held in Auckland earlier this month.
There were 120 entries in the class.
The design was created by Sign It’s Lockie Sutherland.
Local designer Darryl Jones then incorporated the helicopter and stunning Fiordland scenery into the contour of the vehicle.
Sign It owner Reece McChlery says he’s elated with the win because the level of competition is getting tougher every year.
“There’s a new breed of innovative young designers emerging out there who are really pushing the boundaries.
“The entries were really high class so we were elated to win.”
Vehicle ‘wrapping’ has become a very effective way of promoting a business, McChlery says.
Over The Top boss Louisa ‘Choppy’ Patterson says the design completely epitomised her company’s image of delivering a quality product.
“We wanted it to look like a helicopter on wheels.”
Sign It last year won gold in the concept and themes class for its work on the fitout of Queenstown’s Fat Badgers Pizza Bare before the business was gutted by fire in May.
In 2009 the company also won gold for best promotional vehicle in the country.
