The Hilton in Queenstown has a top-notch grub-rustler heading its swanky Waikatipu Grill restaurant when it opens next month.
Acclaimed chef Peter Thornley has a long list of accolades for his prowess in the kitchen, including the coveted Mandarin Napoleon Culinary Grand Prix and being named Singapore chef of the year for four years running.
Thornley, who has worked at Te Papa Museum’s eatery Icon and Auckland’s trendy Kermadec, is also a regular on TV, appearing on cooking shows such as Ready, Steady, Cook and MasterChef.
“We are thrilled Peter is bringing his reputation for imaginative and innovative New Zealand cuisine to the Hilton Queenstown,” the Hilton’s manager Marlene Poynder says.
“The food he and our team of chefs are planning – paired with Wakatipu Grill’s exhilarating design and setting – will truly elevate the gourmet dining scene in Queenstown to another level.”
Also gracing the Wakatipu Grill is pastry chef Brian Campbell, while Fréderic Monnier will be executive chef for both the new Hilton hotels at the Kawarau Falls Station complex.
