Passing on the Eichardt’s hotel baton

Taking over from the first boss of Queenstown’s Eichardt’s Private Hotel is someone already familiar with the job.

Victoria Shaw is being replaced by Holly Taylor, who for the past two years had a general managerial role, overseeing the luxury hotel for the owners as well as another of their properties, Branches Station, near Queenstown. Those owners include Shaw’s father, Bill.

Taylor, 34, formerly had sales and marketing roles with Lake Tahoe resorts, in her native America, and at Canterbury’s Terrace Downs Resort.

Shaw, 37 – with Eichardt’s since 2001 when the historic building was fitted out as Queenstown’s first top-end hotel – leaves this week “to take time out”, saying she’s been in hospitality for nearly 30 years.

Shaw’s family home in the Wairarapa turned into the exclusive Wharekauhau Lodge and Country Estate, which she managed for two years before arriving in Queenstown.

She says trading this past summer was the hotel’s best, and at full room rates – up to $1600 a night.
Shaw also ended a two-year stint as the New Zealand Hotel Council’s Queenstown chair earlier this year.
