New Crowne Plaza boss comes from quake zone

A career hotelier who latterly managed the quake-damaged Holiday Inn Christchurch is Crowne Plaza Queenstown’s new general manager.

Dutch-born Reinier Eulink takes over next Monday from Matt Anderson, who returns to his native Canberra to run the Australian capital city’s 300-room Crowne Plaza.

Reinier – who’s also had stints at Hilton London Heathrow and Holiday Inn Wellington – says he’s delighted to be coming with his wife and young child to “a divine part of the world”.

“Queenstown is one of the more beautiful places we have travelled to and I absolutely relish the opportunity to join Crowne Plaza’s Queenstown team.

“The [139-room] hotel is superb, there’s a fantastic team in place and the future outlook is promising.”

Crowne Plaza Queenstown was Anderson’s first general manager role when he joined two years ago.

“I’ve enjoyed an amazing learning curve – which included learning to run in high heels during the Winter Festival drag race.

“I feel like I’ve been in Queenstown when a lot of previous effort has come to be realised.”

Eulink, for his part, says he’s “delighted to be stepping into Matt’s shoes, even if they are high heeled for one occasion a year”.
