Queenstown’s young businesspeople have been given important networking tips at a seminar.
Coaching and leadership expert Laurie Sharp gave a talk on “Winners look for networks – the rest look for work” to the Queenstown Young Professionals group at Prime restaurant yesterday.
Sharp, ASB bank’s head of coaching and development, says networking is one of the most important tools for successful business. Cold-calling potential clients no longer works.
“If you want to influence others, ordinary is no longer acceptable,” he says.
“In this fast-paced world of significant change, only extraordinary will do. You must be memorable – and networking is memorable.”
Sharp coached attendants about the importance of building and maintaining relationships and gave tips on what should be done before, during and after networking events.
“People do business with people they know, like and trust,” he says.
