Kicking tyres at new Events Centre car fair

A husband-and-wife team hope a northern car-selling idea will rev up down south.

Jodie and Sean Squires – who moved to Queenstown from the North Island seven years ago – are holding the resort’s first car fair at the Events Centre on January 25.

They hope the concept – where sellers bring vehicles to one spot to be viewed by car hunters – will take off.

“We’re both from the North Island where car fairs are all over the place and we thought it might work down here,” says Jodie.

She says the 10am-2pm event will get unsightly and unwanted cars off Queenstown streets – and help people avoid QLDC fines.

Parking a car with a For Sale notice on a road or public area is prohibited under council bylaws.

Sellers at the fair pay $20 to enter their wheels, with a portion going to the Wakatipu Trails Trust.
