Queenstown businessman Geoff Matthews is a finalist at the TVNZ-NZ Marketing Awards with his third different company in three years.
He is chief executive and founding director of Mt Cook Alpine Salmon, which is up for four awards in Auckland next month.
The company is a finalist in the emerging business, export marketing and transformational marketing awards and Matthews is a finalist in the marketer of the year award.
The company – whose chairman is former Prime Minister Jim Bolger – has changed the world of salmon by introducing a brand-led ultra-premium product into a commodity-led industry, Matthews says.
“What we’ve achieved in the past year, in the US market in particular, is significant.”
His branding/marketing consultancy, BrandCom, won the emerging business awards for the past two years – in 2009 for TaxRefunds.co.nz and last year for work for a client selling guitar effects pedals.
