A former Millbrook Resort manager is to run a boutique Queenstown hotel after two years of voluntary work abroad.

Karen Henry (right) had 13 years at the Arrowtown resort, the last seven as hotel manager, before taking on a tourism development advisory role in Vanuatu.

Next week she takes over the 19-room Queenstown Park Boutique Hotel.

“I’m looking forward to the intimacy of a small property,” Henry says.

Outgoing managers Donna Fallon and John Etheridge are moving to Auckland’s upmarket Hotel DeBrett, where Fallon will be front office manager and Etheridge will run food and beverage.

The couple, who’ve managed the property adjoining the Recreation Ground since it opened in 2007, say it was time to move on.

Etheridge says business is tracking back up again after a difficult 2011.

“We’ve had wonderful support from Destination Queenstown,” Fallon adds.
