Queenstown’s Fergburger empire has been granted resource consent for a $5000-for-hire function room.
The world-famous burger joint had applied to the council for consent to sell liquor from 8am till 4am from premises above Fergbaker and icecream parlour Mrs Ferg in Shotover Street.
In its application, Ferg Functions Ltd says the room will provide a quality asset to the high-end business and function market that’s currently limited in Queenstown.
Functions might include a product launch for a luxury brand, a high-end auction, planning workshops, exclusive speakers from New Zealand or Australian companies or an assembly or meeting point for celebrities and their entourages.
“The function room already has interest from wealthy Australian businesses bringing clients to Queenstown and corporate Queenstown hosts looking for something different and special for their clients.”
The base rate for hiring the room – containing beautiful wood, copper, marble and other high-end materials - is
likely to be $5000 per day, the application states.
Queenstown’s council has approved the application subject to the entry door and windows remaining closed between 10pm and 8am to avoid noise effects.
Fergburger general manager Steve Bradley says the company’s excited about receiving the consent, “but
there’s a lot of concept work to be done yet”.
It’s likely to be late this year before the room is open for business.
