Facing the future as full-time mum

Former film and television artist Jessica Bell has found a new canvas to work on – people’s faces.

Pictured with her 18-month-old son Toby Davis and family friend Ella Buchanan, 10, Bell is starting a new mobile face painting business to cater for kids’ parties or even adults’ functions.

The Glenorchy woman has stepped back from her full-time job in the film and TV industry while she focuses on being a mum – and finds face painting a good way to keep up her artistic skills at the same time.

Bell, who’s worked on the sets of Hollywood blockbuster 10,000BC and small-screen hits like Hercules and Zena since 1992, trained in face painting while in London two years ago.

“It’s a big change of tack,” she says of her new career move. “It’s fun – you’re always going to a fun event where everybody’s happy.”

She uses “top-quality” face paints from Europe for her Painted Faces business.
