Exercising their tireless pooches morning, noon and night helped two Queenstown entrepreneurs spot a gap in the market.
Business partners Meg Margison and Erica Wymore opened DOG Company dog day care centre last September – and the Gorge Road business is proving a hit with Queenstown dog owners.
Margison says: “Erica was running her Spoodle in the morning, at lunchtime and after work.
“He had so much energy – her life was revolving around taking him out for walks. We met through a local groomer, and once we decided to do this we did our research and realised this is incredibly big overseas and also in the bigger New Zealand cities.”
With more than 3500 registered dogs in Queenstown, the purpose-built centre already has its fair share of regulars.
“Mornings are manic,” she says.
“They’re all meeting and greeting, so excited, they literally pull their owners in through the door.
“The owners say once they’ve been here once, when they park outside the dog knows it’s coming.
And it must be exciting for them, coming to spend their day with other dogs rather than sitting at home, Margison adds.
“That’s the whole concept – so people don’t leave their dogs bored at home but bring them here to be socialised.”
