CrossFit craze gets own training space

CrossFit Queenstown’s crew – (from left) coach Christian Glinister, business manager/owner Simon Green and head coach Steve Orr – show off their new premises.

Until it opened on Monday earlier this week, Orr had been taking CrossFit classes at the Queenstown Events Centre in Frankton and outdoors.

The new fitness training method, increasing in popularity around the world, has been running in Queenstown about two years.

Green says they needed a dedicated space as a lot of the exercises require different equipment and space to those in a traditional gym.

“CrossFit is a culture as much as a fitness system and a big part is having its own home. It’s becoming such a huge international brand we’re getting a lot of inquiries from people out of town who want to do a workout while here.”

A separate Green company is behind Winter Festival charity boxing night Thriller in the Chiller, with Orr and Glinister running the training.
