Broader scope for business awards

The Queenstown Chamber of Commerce says its two-yearly Business Excellence Awards will be more inclusive than ever this year.

Announcing the opening of nominations, chamber chief executive Ann Lockhart (right) says four additional awards categories will broaden the base of entrants.

The new categories are tourism activities and events, trade and construction, and hospitality and accommodation split into small enterprise and large enterprise sections.

As well as putting their own firm forward, Lockhart says nominees for the first time can also nominate another business.

“The Chamber of Commerce Business Excellence Awards are a good way for businesses to measure themselves against their peers,” she says.

Judges returning from the 2010 awards are Mike Sutherland from main sponsor Westpac, Otago University marketing lecturer Dr John Guthrie and Wakatipu High board chair Alistair Nicholson.

The judging panel will also welcome Southern Institute of Technology chief financial officer Bharat Guha.

Key dates are July 18 for nominations, September 20 for actual entries, and October 27 for the gala awards at the Millennium Hotel.

Entries are free for chamber members or $200 for non-members.
