A second ice bar opens in Queenstown on July 7.
The bar, in Searle Lane, will be half as big again as the Minus 5 ice bar on Steamer Wharf.
“As far as we can tell, it’s the biggest ice bar in Australasia,” general manager Blair Pattinson says.
The new bar, named Below Zero, will work on similar lines to Minus 5.
“But it does have a feature that we’re going to keep quiet until we open that is going to be a world first for an ice bar,” Pattinson says.
He believes there’s room for two ice bars in Queenstown.
“Since Minus 5 opened, there’ve been a lot of breakthroughs in the way that you can cut ice and make it look better.
Below Zero is being developed by a consortium of family trusts, Pattinson says.
