American Express celebrates 25-year partnership with Queenstown

Queenstown Winter Festival’s longest-running sponsor says it’s proud to have been involved so long.

Naming sponsor, card company American Express, is celebrating its 25th consecutive year supporting festival and its owner Destination Queenstown.

In more recent years Amex, which recently signed on for another three years, has also been the festival’s naming sponsor.

“It is probably one of the longest-running global partnerships or sponsorships that we’ve got, as American Express, so that’s a lot to be proud of,” Sydney-based brand, loyalty and membership rewards Australasian vice president Morgan Hunter says.

The festival is also the only event it has naming sponsorship of in Australasia, he adds.

“Our commitment is off the back of the success of the Winter Festival and Queenstown as a destination.

“It’s growing in popularity and reputation as an any-time-of-year destination, popular with [American Express] customers not only in New Zealand but also in Australia.”

Hunter says that over the time of its support of the festival and the resort, tens of thousands of its customers have visited Queenstown.

During this festival, American Express has sponsored the opening party and fireworks, the street parade, the Village Green ice rink and the comedy debate and is also behind tomorrow’s (Friday) scheduled opening of night skiing at Coronet Peak.

It’s also provided lights and decorations to help retailers dress their shop windows.
