Former TVNZ presenter Paul Henry should’ve stayed on the telly, a scene.co.nz poll suggests.
In response to the scene.co.nz question: ‘Should Breakfast presenter Paul Henry have resigned from TVNZ?’ a clear majority – 77 per cent or 41 votes – opted for ‘no’.
The remaining 23 per cent – 12 people – voted yes.
The out-spoken Breakfast host resigned on October 10 while suspended without pay after controversial comments about New Zealand’s Governor-General Anand Satyanand were pegged as racist.
“Is he even a New Zealander?” Henry quipped to Prime Minister John Key: “Are you going to choose a New Zealander who looks and sounds like a New Zealander this time?”
In his seven years on the job, Henry clocked up a litany of Broadcasting Standards Authority complaints for his provocative live outbursts.
Henry was also slammed for recently mocking the name of Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit.
“What’s her name? Dick Shit. And it’s so appropriate because she is Indian. So she’d be dick-in-shit, walking along the street. I’ve known about her for a while and I’ve been laughing ever since.”
