A large blaze at Jacks Point is being fought from the air as fire crews struggle to bring it under control from the ground.
A monsoon bucket is being filled from Lake Tewa, outside the Jacks Point clubhouse.
The fire broke out just before noon, and is raging on a gorse-covered hill between the Jacks Point clubhouse and Lake Wakatipu.
It is being fanned by strong winds and travelling in a southerly direction towards Kingston.
It is unclear if part of the 18-hole golf course or any homes at the site are under threat.
The blaze was possibly started by a lawn mower.
Jacks Point is a 1200ha settlement on the shores of Lake Wakatipu, comprising an 18-hole golf course, club house and a residential development.
