Wilson Contractors’ Mark Rewi and Athol Elliott help upgrade a popular Queenstown lakeside trail last Friday.
The pair were among a five-strong team who spent two days raking 450 tonnes of gravel choppered to the dirt track stretching 3.6km from Kelvin Heights’ Jardine Park to Jack’s Point.
Wilson site supervisor Stephen Whiteley estimates the two choppers from Nokomai Helicopters made more than 500 trips ferrying gravel from the Jack’s Point quarry.
The Jack’s Point development company supplied the gravel at cost.
The scenic walking/cycling track – which had been closed for the $100,000 upgrade funded by Queenstown Lakes District Council’s Wakatipu Trails Trust – reopened yesterday.
