Best of the basin goes global

A TV ad featuring Queenstown panoramas and its iconic bungy bridge is being screened to a global audience of millions. 

Filmed earlier this year, the Fujifilm advert is on air in New Zealand – and more than 26 other countries. 

It demonstrates the zoom function of the Japanese manufacturer’s latest camera by using it to simulate a man’s AJ Hackett bungy jump off the Kawarau Bridge. 

Tourism bosses say it will provide “invaluable global exposure”. 

Stephen Hodson, general manager of Fujifilm NZ, says: “The commercial has been translated into 20 languages. 

“It highlights some of the best scenery NZ has to offer.” 

The ad will also be streamed online and stills from the shoot will be used in product brochures for the company’s new range. 

Destination Queenstown boss Tony Everitt says: “We’re delighted they chose to film here. 

“Showcasing Queenstown’s scenery and one of our world-famous adventure experiences in their commercial will give us invaluable global exposure. 

“To be recognised worldwide as an iconic visitor destination and film location is a strong endorsement of our region’s tourism industry.” 

The filming also provided an immediate economic boost – its production budget was more than $2 million. 

Queenstown-based production company Batch organised the shoot.
